Bridgend, Wales – Tanio, formerly known as Valley and Vale Community Arts, is thrilled to celebrate its fifth anniversary. The organisation, which rebranded in early 2020, has continued to build on its 35-year legacy of community arts work in South Wales. The name "Tanio," meaning "ignite" in Welsh, perfectly encapsulates the organisation's mission to spark creativity, community, and social change.
Over the past five years, Tanio has made significant strides in fostering safe, inclusive spaces and opportunities for Valleys communities. The organisation has hosted over 1,700 activities and events, attracting more than 18,000 attendees. These efforts have brought £1.5 million into the community, with a social return on investment estimated to be three times that amount.
‘We are incredibly proud of what Tanio has achieved over the past five years. Our commitment to igniting creativity and fostering community spirit has never been stronger. We look forward to continuing our work and making an even greater impact in the years to come,’ said Lisa Davies, Chief Executive at Tanio.
Tanio's projects span various areas, including health and wellbeing, climate justice, and social value. One notable initiative is the Breathing Space Ignite programme (funded by the Arts, Health, and Wellbeing Lottery fund through the Arts Council of Wales, and delivered in partnership with Awen Cultural Trust, Mental Health Matters Wales, and the Taff Ely Primary Care Cluster), which supports over 70 people weekly across Bridgend County and Pontypridd. This programme has had a profound impact, helping individuals combat loneliness and improve mental health.
Tanio extends its heartfelt thanks to its funders, including the Arts Council of Wales, the Postcode Community Trust, and Bridgend County Borough Council. The organisation also appreciates the support of its partners and the dedication of its artist facilitators and Board of Trustees.
Tanio remains committed to using art and creativity as powerful tools for social change, health, and wellbeing. The organisation looks forward to continuing its work and making a lasting impact on the community.
On Wednesday 16th April, Tanio held two birthday events, including a Community Fun Day and a party to celebrate its partners and facilitators. As part of the events, the organisation asked for donations to help support its ongoing work through challenging global financial times. If you would like to make a donation to Tanio’s work, please search for them on JustGiving, or use the Easy Fundraising app to raise money for Tanio while you shop online.
