Bellas Mindful Day

A Creative Collaborations Arts Council of Wales Project

A mindfulness Animation about Bella, working with children from Ysgol Coed Y Gof

Tanio – Valley and Vale partnered with Ysgol Coed Y Gof, a Welsh medium School in Cardiff, on a Creative Collaborations Arts Council of Wales project. The grant was used to promote the wellbeing agenda at the school, to create resources in mindfulness, particularly in the Welsh Language, and to forge creative partnerships and learning between pupils, artists and teachers. Pupils and teachers began the journey working with mindfulness practitioner Caroline Martin who introduced the practise of mindfulness to them. Tracy Pallant and Amy Peckham worked on a behind the scenes video with pupils, documenting their mindfulness journey. Film maker Jane Hubbard came in to work with pupils over a period of 4 months to create a short animated film, through a combination of writing, art and animation workshops. The result was a short animated film Bellas Mindful Day in English and Welsh, along with two animated mediations, which will be used as resources to promote mindfulness to other pupils at the school. The project took risks and required us to be innovative. The result was a fun-filled and child-led programme, which created many learning opportunities at a variety of levels.
