Chris Lloyd announced as Tanio’s First Filmmaker in Residence
We at Tanio are excited to announce that we’ll be welcoming our first Filmmaker in Residence – the incredibly talented filmmaker Chris Lloyd. Chris Lloyd has worked on projects that has taken him all around the world, working with some of the most influential names in theatre and film, and has an impressive back catalogue of self-initiated projects. His passion lies in documentary filmmaking and he enjoys telling the lesser-known stories from the fringes of communities.
Chris Lloyd grew up here in Bettws and is enthusiastically proud of his roots and looks forward to engaging with his community through film – “Tanio are very community focussed with a passionate team delivering important work which challenges ideas and perceptions, providing an excellent introduction to the arts to the people of Bettws and its surrounding areas. I jumped at the chance to become part of that.”
He has worked closely with the team in 2020 to deliver Tanio TV – an ongoing series of crafty tutorials, which sparked the idea to get Chris Lloyd on board a as a resident filmmaker. Lisa Davies was made CEO of Tanio in 2019 and she states that connecting with new artists was always a priority and this residency lined up perfectly with this: “Through working with Chris during the pandemic and learning more about his life in Bettws the synergy of our ambitions led to conversations about how we could support each other in a more formal way.”
This is the first creative residency at Tanio and we hope it persists in the long term.
“Once we decided to move forward with the filmmaker in residence it got us thinking about how this way of working could grow and we are hoping to work with a community dance practitioner later in the year.”
Having a creative practitioner residing at Tanio will benefit the company in numerous ways and we at Tanio hope that it can be a helping hand in the careers of the creatives.
“During the pandemic I became even more aware of the fragility of freelance artist work and in turn; pay. This is a way we can make a commitment to support artists with a monthly fee for twelve months, as well use of our resources, office space, and space and time to develop work.”
