We had an absolutely fantastic summer here at Tanio, with a wide array of events, activities, and workshops taking place! Over the course of the 6-week school summer holidays, we held or took part in a total of 21 events, and worked with over 700 participants – and we loved every minute of it!
Making our summer activities happen at Tanio is no mean feat, especially because we are a small team. We are lucky to work with many talented freelance artists and facilitators, who always bring their very best skills, expertise, and motivation to us. Everyone worked together, giving their all, for the whole summer. And we have had great results because of it!
Starting with our Outdoor Cinema at the end of July, we hosted a total of 6 Tanio Tuesday events, with one event taking place on each Tuesday in the summer hols. Our TikTok Tuesday was back this year, with outdoor dance workshops happening around BCBC, even though the weather was dreadful – a big thank you to everyone who came along to dance in the rain! We held our first ever Tanio Treasure Trail in Parc Calon Lan, where participants hunted to find signs of mythical creatures in the woodland. We led crafting and drumming workshops in Maesteg Welfare Park. Emma led one of her famous crafting days at our building in Bettws, and we finished the summer with a fabulous trip to Coney Beach in Porthcawl!
Whew! Are you tired just reading about it?
On top of all these activities, we took part in a wide variety of workshops and events led by partner organisations who we have been very lucky to work with! From the Food and Fun Programme run by BCBC, to Llais y Goedwig and their project with the Cwm Taf Nature Network, to Urban Foundry and the Bridgend Inclusive Network Group, we made a lot of new friends this summer. And we hope that building relationships with these groups will mean more wonderful activities in the future!
So tell us about your summer! Did you take part in any events with Tanio? Did you have a holiday somewhere special? Did you get a chance to relax and enjoy yourselves? We would love to see some pictures and hear your feedback so please email [email protected] to share your experiences with us.
Whatever you got up to, we hope it was wonderful, and that you have felt energised and excited to head into autumn! We’re already excited for Halloween and Christmas!

Creativity can feel like a very scary word. I’ve heard people say, ‘I’m just not creative!’ hundreds of times, and it comes from believing they have to be good at painting or acting or crafting in order to be creative. Yes, those things are very creative, but we all use creativity in so many other parts of our lives!
It is my firm belief (and Tanio’s, too!) that everyone is creative, but we’re all creative in different ways. Creativity is not just about art; it’s about how we express ourselves, how we solve problems, and how we interact with others.
So I decided to look back on the weekend just gone, and think about ways that I was creative. Have a look, and then think about ways that you’ve been creative in the last few days. We’d love to hear about them! Get in touch and let us know all the ways you let your creativity shine from day to day!
Sometimes the creative things we do are more ‘traditional,’ like working with music for a choir. And sometimes we do creative things without thinking about it, like gardening or making content for social media. No matter what, we all have creativity inside us, and we all use it every day to make our lives easier and smoother. What’s your creative outlet? How have you been creative today?
We need your promises to protect the environment.
To mark World Earth Hour we are painting a mural on the side of our Base highlighting your promises to the community and the planet. We are painting these on Saturday March 26th between 2pm and 4pm, come on down where we will also be doing crafts and some painting for ourselves.
In order to share your promise, all you have to do is complete this form by clicking HERE.
We can’t wait to see your promises being placed on the Base right here in Bettws for future generations to see just how much we care for our community.
Tanio are going to be painting a mural for Earth Hour 2022. The mural is to be made out of our communities promises to care for the future of our planet.

WWF’s Earth Hour is a global movement, which brings hundreds of millions of people together across the globe to unite and show that they care about the future of our planet, our one shared home. This year Earth Hour will take place on Saturday March 26th 8:30-9:30pm with homes, businesses, and landmarks all over Wales due to take part.
Last year over 2,000 people in Wales took part in Earth Hour and this year WWF Cymru are once again asking people to be part of a movement for our world.
From coastal dunes to peat moorlands, Wales has stunning natural landscapes. Wales is home to many beautiful wild plants like the Snowdon lily and animals like the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay.
2022 is an important year for change. By joining millions of people around the world and coming together on the night of Earth Hour, communities across Wales show they care about the future of our planet.
